Song, by Toad Split 12″ Launch Tour

Wahey, we have finally confirmed all the bookings for what might be my favourite wee tour so far, in charge of Song, by Toad Records.

In January this year, with the help of Rory Sutherland, Nic Rue, Matthew Swan and a handful of video pals, we invited four of our favourite guitar bands round to Toad Hall and recorded four songs by each, all done more or less live with minimal overdubs.  The idea was to release a split 12″ which harked back to the days when recorded music was more loose and informal, when a release wasn’t necessarily the result of two years work of intense blood, sweat and tears, and when people had the chance to have a go at things one week, write some more songs, and release something else a few weeks later.

Digital music has done a lot to damage the music industry, to be sure, but it has done a lot to liberate it as well.  Cheap recording technology means that even with limited means you can produce a really nice record with not all that much outlay, and I think this is something which should be embraced.  We can just do stuff these days, and I think we should.

So, between June 13th and June 16th we will be playing four dates with all four bands, trying to visit everyone’s home turf if we can, as a kind of launch tour for this release.  A release of which, in case you hadn’t guessed already, I am very proud.

Wednesday 13th June: London, Power Lunches.
446 Kingsland Road, Hackney, London E8 4AE

Thursday 14th June: Manchester, The Bay Horse.
The Bay Horse, 35-37 Thomas Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester M4 1NA

Friday 15th June: Edinburgh, The Wee Red Bar.
Lauriston Place  Edinburgh, Midlothian EH3

Saturday 16th June: Aberdeen: Snafu.
Club Snafu, 1 Union Street, Aberdeen AB11 5BU

Over the next few weeks I’ll be slowly releasing videos of the recording process into the world, but for now I will leave you with a song from each band, and hopefully you will be just as excited as I am.  Probably not quite, but close enough would be nice.
