Live in Edinburgh This Week – 17th June 2013
Well there are a few awesome things happening in Edinburgh this week and, yes you’re so very welcome, most of them are being supplied by us! We have two BAD FUN gigs this week, starting on Thursday 20th with the peerless David Thomas Broughton. His experimental, looped pop songs veer from spooky to humorous and he is one of the best live performers I’ve seen in all the years I’ve been doing this. He will be joined on the bill by folk songstress Rachael Dadd and the excellent, but distinctly odder, Ichi, all on their way to play the Insider Festival near Aviemore this weekend.
Our second gig is on Saturday 22nd, when Rick Redbeard joins Ian Humberstone on the bill at Henry’s again. Rick has released one of my favourite albums of the year with No Selfish Heart, and Ian has just put out a new EP, enigmatically titled Three Songs by Ian Humberstone. Both guys have elements of folk and acoustic pop in their songwriting, with Mr. Redbeard perhaps adding a little more country into the mix, and this will be an evening of lush and beautiful music.
Other things on appear to be a little few and far between at the moment, but for those not tempted by Toad things there’s umm… well, there’s Lucinda Williams at the Queen’s Hall on Sunday 23rd if you like your country music, and that’s about all I could find, sorry. Let me know in the comments if I have missed anything obvious, because I usually have.
